Cadangan Naik Taraf IPTIPs jadi Kolej Universiti

Kerajaan negeri Perlis  bercadang menaik taraf Institut Pengajian Tinggi Islam Perlis (IPTIPs)sebagai sebuah Kolej Universiti selaras dengan imej Perlis sebagai negeri yang mengamalkan Sunnah Wal Jamaah. Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Agama Islam, Hadhari dan Pembangunan Sunnah negeri, Jafperi Othman, ketika menjawab soalan lisan Khairi Hasan(BN Mata Ayer), berkata ia penting bukan saja untuk meningkatkan imej IPTIPs  sendiri, tetapi bagi meningkatkan jumlah pelajar termasuk dari luar yang menyertainya.Sehingga kini, katanya IPTIPs menerima pelajar bukan saja dari Malaysia, bahkan dari beberapa negara lain seperti Thailand, Singapura, China, Kemboja, Indonesia dan, Vietnam. Beliau berkata, disebabkan bilangan pelajar yang agak kecil, maka kerajaan negeri merasakan amat penting untuk mengambil tindakan yang mampu menaikan imej IPTIPs, termasuk menaik taraf pusat berkenaan ke status Kolej Universiti.

Economic Activities In Wang Kelian Picking Up

KANGAR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Economic activities in Wang Kelian, one of the entry points along the Malaysia-Thai border, have picked up with the implementation of the free flow facility on Dec 5 last year, the Perlis State Assembly was told today.

State Land, Forestry and Environment Committee chairman Mat Rawi Kassim, in response to a question by Hashim Jasin (PAS-Sanglang), said implementation of the system had reactivated economic activities in the area.

Economic activities in Wang Kelian became almost paralysed when the government withdrew the free flow facility early last year for security reasons.

However, at a bilateral meeting between the Perlis government and the Satun Provincial Administration, both sides agreed to allow Malaysians and Thais to cross the border without any travel documents within a radius of one kilometre.

Mat Rawi said that between Dec 5, 2008 and Feb 15 this year, a total of 17,552 Thai citizens crossed to

Wang Kelian and 8,929 Malaysians went to Wang Prachanin in the Thai border.

The number of business stalls had also increased from 60 units to 200 units, he added.

He said the government had also built a two-storey business arcade for traders in the area, adding that another 150 stalls would be built and expected to be ready next year.

State Religious Committee chairman Jafperi Othman, in response to a question by Khairi Hassan (BN-Mata Ayer), said the government was planning to upgrade the Institut Pengajian Tinggi Islam Perlis (IPTIPs) into a university college.

He said IPTIPs also had students from Thailand, Singapore, China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu said that it was not wrong for State Secretary Mohd Zabidi Zainal to have his picture on banners made for certain functions.

The action of the state secretary did not violate any regulations in the civil service or that of the state government, he said in response to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (BN-Tambun Tulang).

In another development, Hashim, when debating the First Supplementary Supply Bill (2008) 2009, said he had yet to receive his allowance as an elected representative.

He said it was difficult for him to carry out his duties without the allowance.
